Dominant Mossley eased to a comfortable 5-0 victory over Kendal Town at Seel Park on Saturday with Adam Morgan grabbing his first competitive goals for the Lilywhites with a second half hat-trick.
The emphatic result was no less than Mossley deserved as they dominated the game throughout, with under 21 team starlet Jes Uchegbulam enjoying a great start to his first team career with a well taken goal and a ‘man of the match’ performance.
Early chances for Adam Morgan and Ben Halfacre were a sign of things to come before the skilful and speedy Jes Uchegbulam grabbed his goal in the 11 minute after leaving his marker ‘treading treacle’ as he raced onto Simon Lenighan’s pass before firing an angled shot home off both posts from around 20 yards.
It was the only goal of the half but the Lilywhites, who enjoyed patiently building from the back, were clearly the better team in every position.
Kendal’s best chance came just before the break when Dylan Forth was forced to turn Sean Patterson’s 25 yard drive around the post. Forth remained virtually untroubled thereafter.
Adam Morgan came close to doubling the lead at the start of the second half but his clever free kick grazed the top of the bar with Kendal keeper (and briefly Mossley keeper last season) Joao Mendes well beaten.
Uchegbulam turned provider moments later when he easily beat two defenders on the right before pulling his pass for Adam Morgan to lift the ball first time into the roof of the net from 15 yards.
With Lenighan and Craig Roddan dominating the middle of the park Mossley were now able to attack at will and a third goal would be no surprise.
It was Kendal who had the next chance though as a ball into the box from Mossley’s left saw a Kendal forward completely missed the ball with an open goal at his mercy.
That third goal duly arrived just after the hour mark and it was another beauty by Ben Halfacre, who receiving the ball from Ben Richardson with his back to goal turned past his marker before rifling a powerful low right foot shot past Mendes from the edge of the box.
The game was long since over as a contest as Mossley added two further goals in the closing minutes.
Superb interplay between Uchegbulam and substitute Chiekh Thiam on the right wing saw the latter tee up Morgan for his second with a controlled finish and a minute later Morgan raced clear to easily slot the ball past Mendes to complete his hat-trick.
Morgan almost had a fourth with practically the last kick of the match but his effort just cleared the bar.
